Need 64-bit preference pane for Snow Leopard

  • Type: Cosmetic
  • Version Tested: 1.2b2 (Intel)
  • OS Version Affected: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
  • Status: Fixed in version 1.2b3

Description

Selecting "Shades" in System Preferences brings up a dialog saying, "To use the 'Shades Preferences' preference pane, System Preferences must quit and reopen." I believe this is because System Preferences is now a 64-bit app, and Shades is a 32-bit preference pane.

Resolution

The 64bit-compatible version is now available for download: http://www.charcoaldesign.co.uk/shades

Updates

The preference pane works fine after clicking "OK" on the dialog, hence my categorization of this as a "Cosmetic" bug.

Another vote for 64-bit!

Shades allowed me to dim my screen without relying on the brightness buttons of my apple cinema display which cause the display to emit an annoying humming noise.
Under Snow Leopard, the Shades menu bar slider is inoperative and System Preferences is forced to operate in 32 bit.
I miss not being able to use Shades and would appreciate an update please. Is this planned?

This has been implemented and will be released shortly.
