MagiCal Bug Report

you have to actually click a number for it to show the calendar

  • Type: Incorrect Functionality
  • Version Tested: 1.1r1 (PPC)
  • OS Version Affected: Mac OS X 10.5 PPC
  • Status: Open

with the original mac time, you can click anywhere within it and it'll pop up the dialog window. with this, if you don't actually click the number, nothing happens. (at least in leopard). this is pretty frustrating. OTHERWISE THIS IS AWESOME

This is a big annoyance for me. With any other menu, you just click in the area. Making the user pay attention to the micro-position of the cursor to hit the text rather than the macro-position of the used area of the menu bar is not "proper" UI design.

A seemingly similar problem (perhaps one in the same) is existing for me running Leopard on an Intel Mac. It seems that many times when I click on the number / date / etc provided by MagiCal, nothing happens. I click many times, and eventually (most of the time), the calendar pops up. Maybe this is because I'm not clicking close enough to the numbers. At any rate, it is extremely frustrating when I cannot click on it to get to the options or produce the calendar.

This program is otherwise exceptional, and I hope this problem can be fixed!

This is a major problem for me, on an Intel iMac running Leopard 10.5.5. I can't find any consistent way to bring up the calendar, and I cannot get the popup menu to appear at all. This update has ruined the program, it's now useless.

Unfortunately this is not a change I have made - it is a problem with Leopard and I've not found a way to work around it yet. If you click on the time text precisely, or enable the mini-calendar icon, then the calendar can be made to appear fairly easily.

If you wait for a second before clicking the "i" icon then the preferences menu will appear. I appreciate that this is inconvenient, but I don't have a better solution at this time.

agreed, i dont remember this problem with the earlier version i had installed. just updated, and couldnt for the life of me figure out why the calendar drop down was so erratic--now i know its having to mousedown on the actual type. this is very challenging as part of an efficient workflow, and frustrating to boot. please make a larger active area for mousedown!

otherwise, thank you for such a useful app that should be a part of the os. btw im running 10.5.6/intel.
