Updates
Actually, it seems I can activate it by clicking the very left edge of it in the menu bar.

Can't find the sweet spot to make the calendar appear

Unfortunately, under Leopard it is necessary to click on an opaque pixel such as the stem of one of the letters, or the mini calendar icon.
I will try to fix this, but I don't know exactly why it's happening.

Interesting. Please do, this is driving me nuts! :)

Still a big problem. Please try to fix. I don\'t want to revert to Tiger ;-)

agreed, i dont remember this problem with the earlier version i had installed. just updated, and couldnt for the life of me figure out why the calendar drop down was so erratic--now i know its having to mousedown on the actual type. this is very challenging as part of an efficient workflow, and frustrating to boot. please make a larger active area for mousedown!
otherwise, thank you for such a useful app that should be a part of the os. btw im running 10.5.6/intel.

I found that it would respond to a "few" clicks at first and then quit. After reading that others were experiencing the same problem, I decided to try different things... I turned off the anti-aliasing preference, and, so far, it seems to be responding to clicks. I need to test for a longer period of time, but thought I'd let you know in case it rings any bells in your code. Good luck!
It's a great little app! Keep up the good work!!

An additional note, I cannot get it to fail if I click on the date icon. I have tried to deliberately click on a white space and cannot do it. I suspect it is because the entire icon a generated graphic and no real white space exists. Perhaps the time should be processed in the same way.

As you surmised, the white part of the calendar icon is opaque, so you can click that. If I used the same trick on the text though it would be really ugly due to Leopard's translucent menu bar. Effectively it would look like a thick white block around the text.

Is it possible to get the color of the menubar and use that as your background color then?

I have my MagiCal set to show the date in a little box and the time to its right, e.g. "10:25pm".
When I click the little date box, both the time and the date are inverted and I get the menu. When I click the time, I get no inversion and no menu.
I would like to be able to click the time or the date and get the menu -- I consider the menu title to comprise both of them.

Would really like a fix for this. :( Other than this rather big issue for me, I adore MagiCal!

Damn, why is this so hard to get right?

There must be a way to fix it. Third party apps does that without problem. Maybe putting a background with alpha 1% will fix it.

I get the small date icon on the tool bar, but nothing happens at all when clicking on it. I have snow leaopard and your magical 1.1r2. Sorry to be frank, but it\\\'s no good.

Magical 1.1r2 still has this \"hard to find the right place to click\" problem.
Running on Snow Leopard.
You have to click/hit a non-character pixel (non-translucent?) (opaque?) to invoke the calendar.
Lots of other menubar apps don\'t have this bug, so it\'s not impossible to fix...
