Shades Feature Request

work with f.lux ?

  • Status: Open

Description

I like using f.lux, which changes the colour tone of the screen, to a more relaxing bronze hue, at night, however, f.lux does not work with Shades. The screen flickers when both are in operation.

Is it possible to allow these two apps to work in harmony? Always a good thing.

Updates

I would LOVE to use Shades but am addicted to f.lux as well... Hoping they will eventually play nice together, although I can imagine it's a tall order.

Agreed. This compatibility or if you included the Flux features would be killer.

This is something of a deal breaker for me, I use f.lux and love it, but would really like global brightness adjust based on the ambient light sensor as well. If I have to pick, I pick color balance, and understand why it's difficult to cooperate and not fight. If you can incorporate f.lux's color balance change or work together, that would be killer.

+1 for me. This is a deal breaker. I have tried ScreenShade app which does work with f.lux

Yes, I would love F.lux to work with it, especially since the app I currently use, Dimmer Than Dim, does. However, Shades works with apps in full-screen mode and Dimmer Than Dim was abandoned in 2011, so it does not.

I also have f.lux installed. When I start Shades, TWO instances of Shades appear in the menu bar and the screen flickers between normal and dim.

I, too, would love for Shades to cooperate with f.lux, but as I work frequently at night, f.lux has the slight edge as it adjusts the blue in the color profile.

Shades is still awesome, though.

F.Lux works well with "Brighter Screen Lite" (App Store, free). I replaced Shades with that one, as the functionality is similiar enough for me.

There is an easy way to get f.lux-type functionality while using shades. First, turn off f.lux. Open shades in system preferences. Go to the "Color LCD" tab. Change the tint color to whatever shade of yellow/orange/red you prefer and then use the darkness slider to make the screen dark. Problem solved.

Thank you, person above me who solved the problem!
