Shades Bug Report

loss of menu/prefs access

  • Type: Incorrect Functionality
  • Version Tested: 1.1.5r1 (Intel)
  • OS Version Affected: Mac OS X 10.4 Intel
  • Status: Not a Bug

After tweaking the prefs, I was unable to get the Shades menu to reappear after going to the desktop and into open programs effectively cutting me off from its preferences. I see from your web site the trick is to get to the slider and type command-comma. That's not very helpful putting the solution so far from the app itself. Put the solution in the prefs where one would expect to see it. Better yet, how about a simple menu item for menu/prefs in the slider? Why do you need to hide the menu anyway? It goes away automatically when switching apps. Perhaps show/hide the Dock Icon separately from show/hide the Menu Bar.

Apart from that, so far so good. It's a very helpful little utility.

Unfortunately there is no way to hide the dock item separately from the menu bar (that's just the way Mac OS works), though I agree with you that this would be a nice option.

I didn't include a menu in the slider so its appearance would be consistent with that of the sound volume menu.

I agree that the current setup is not ideal though. Probably something like a System Preferences panel would be a better solution. I'll see what I can do.

Of course once it's set up these things become moot but some guidance from within the program would definitely be helpful (though I understand the limitations imposed on you in design and interface areas).

Thanks. Excellent stuff.
