apple DVD player cannot play images after install of shades

  • Type: Incorrect Functionality
  • Version Tested: 1.1.5r1 (PPC)
  • OS Version Affected: Mac OS X 10.4 PPC
  • Status: Open in version 1.2b1

I am using apple dvd player 4.6.5 on an old G3 ibook. Shades is great, i use regularaly. Tonight I slip in a DVD and there is a soundtrack but no image just a grayed out field. I reinstall DVD player same deal. Try another DVD, same result. I then drag shades tothe trash and log out and back in, relaunch DVD player and it works. This was the first time this showed up, so I have to believe its shades.
Ill just turn it off manually instaed of auto log on.

This shouldn't be an issue any more as of the latest release.

It may be a limitation of your graphics card. Playing a DVD fullscreen under a translucent layer may be quite challenging for an old machine.

Unfortunately I have no G3-era test machines to try it on, so I cannot verify if this is a general issue or just a one-off.

Note that you can quit Shades by clicking on the menu icon and using the command-Q keyboard shortcut - it is not necessary to delete it and restart just to turn it off. You might also ant to try hiding shades (click icon then command-H) to see if that helps the DVD performance.

The same issue occurs with Shades 1.2b2 and Apple DVD Player 4.6.5 on an PowerBook G4 TI.
