Subscriber 1.1 Released

Published at 12:11am on 19 Mar 2007

Subscriber 1.1 is now out of beta, and comes loaded with a few new goodies including full support for Intel macintoshes, and a shiny new icon!

Subscriber, our DIY web syndication tool, has been updated to version 1.1. Subscriber is a handy internet utility that lets you keep track of changes to your favourite web sites. Unlike other, less sophisticated systems, Subscriber lets you select specific parts of pages that you are interested in tracking, and will ignore other changes.

The most significant update is that Subscriber is now Intel compatible, with a universal binary, as well as standalone PPC and Intel versions available for download here.

We've also added Growl support, by popular demand. Growl is a 3rd party notification engine for Mac OS X. Any Growl-enabled application can use Growl to inform you of events using user-configurable pop-up notifications. You can find out more on the Growl web site.

Another important change is that we have added support for using your own SMTP mail server to send email notifications. Originally Subscriber supported email notification by sending requests to the Charcoal Design server. However, due to server congestion and the privacy concerns raised by some users, we will be dropping support for this in a future release. We recommend that all users of email notification switch to using their own SMTP details. If you experience any difficulties with using this new system, please let us know so we can fix it before we drop support for the old system.

The full list of changes for the new version can be found on this page.

We've put a lot of time and effort into developing this new release, and we have decided to increase the price to $14.99. The upgrade is free to all existing registered users, and your current serial numbers are still valid.

You can download the new version of Subscriber from here. We hope you enjoy it, and please send us your feedback so that we can make it even better!
